At Columbia Forest Long Term Care, on Wednesday, June 27, 2012, after a lengthy illness, with his family by his side, Douglas Raymond Schlichter aged 81 years. Douglas graduated from General Motors School in Flint, Michigan and had owned and operated Schlichter's Ltd. for 50 years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church and the Westmount Golf and Country Club where he served on the board, he was a member of the Retired Business and Professional Men's Club and was past president of the K-W Granite Club. Loving husband to the former Ruth Bechtel, dear father to Paul and his wife Deborah, Glenn and Donna Lee Carlstrom, special father to Bob Thompson and his wife Keri, John and his wife Kerry Lackie and George, eleven grandchildren also survive, cherished brother to Marilyn McMillan and her husband Tom Frederick, brother-in-law to Norma Bechtel, nephew to Harriet Archer and Laura Shepherd. Predeceased by his parents Herbert Schlichter and Irene Shepherd, one brother Lloyd, brother-in-law Don McMillan and sister-in-law Joan Hallman. At Douglas's request there will be no visitation at the funeral home. A service in his memory will be held on Thursday, July 5th, at 1:00 p.m., from the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home Chapel, 621 King St. W. followed by a reception at the Westmount Golf and Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the K-W Alzheimer Society as expressions of sympathy through the funeral home.
