Robert Howard POWER

POWER, Robert Howard Robert Howard Power died peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 5, 2017. Husband to Barbara (Brown); predeceased by his sister Evelyn, father of Lauren (Jamie Hassard) and Rob (Ann Saunders), grandfather of Erin Hassard and Susan Chadwick. Bob's sharp wit, sense of humour and positive attitude endeared him to many and forged lifelong friendships, dating all the way back to his Y club pals in Kitchener, ON. His career in business management took him from Newfoundland to British Columbia before he and Barbara finally settled in Bracebridge. Bob was a warm and thoughtful man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. We would like to offer a special thanks to the local caregivers who assisted and befriended him in his last years. A celebration of Bob's life will be held at the family home 2-4 p.m. on the afternoon of Friday, January 19, 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Stephen Lewis Foundation (Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign) or Muskoka Parry Sound Sexual Assault Services.

Visit with Barb & Bob Power

As a follow-up to Barb's note on the problems that Bob has run into. John and Don visited Barb and Bob in the Bracebridge Hospital on June 5, 2013.

We are pleased to report that Bob has lost none of his sense of humor and is progressing well with his recuperation.

Although you might be somewhat envious of his weight loss, Bob does emphatically NOT endorse the method.

Dear Don:

Bob is recovering well from a stroke he had on the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend, and his doctor in the rehab hospital in Penetang tells us he should be well enough to come home soon. There appears to be little permanent paralysis, but he has been struggling with a prosthesis that has not been cooperating, and what appears to be a nasty hospital bug: complications not related to the stroke but enough to try even his sense of humour.

We were down at Rob and Ann's and in the midst of a big party when it happened, so had lots of support including two nurses, one an emergency specialist. He spent a week in Niagara Falls General, and has been in Penetang Rehab since last Monday. Needless to say our kids have been great.Though he won't make it home for his 80th birthday on Sat we will be together there to celebrate.
